Bordeaux in Lines.

Brief: Create a minimal architectural line drawing of the client’s building for a bespoke New Year card. The illustration should avoid a rigid CAD-like feel, instead using loose, expressive linework to capture the character of the traditional Bordeaux stone building and its decorative iron balconies. The composition is designed around the fold of the card, using the corner of the building as a physical hinge so that when opened, the card forms a small three-dimensional representation of the structure. The artwork was developed from non-square photographic references, requiring careful interpretation of perspective and detail..

A Structure Unfolded

A timelapse showing the development of a hand-drawn architectural illustration created for a bespoke New Year card. The building, a traditional stone property in Bordeaux with detailed masonry and iron balcony work, was carefully interpreted from photographic references that were not aligned or to scale. Drawn in a minimal, expressive line style, the composition was designed around the fold of the card so that the finished piece forms a small three-dimensional model when opened, bringing the architecture into physical space.
